(Certain) Music is a love of mine. You may think that I have a very weird love affair and taste of music, but music is beautiful (in a skankable way, that’s a Dubstep term, if you didn’t know). Let us begin.. My music tastes vary from time to time and at the moment my favourite music genre is Dubstep. Now, you may have thought that you have heard Dubstep before and instantly hated it from that moment onwards, but let me attempt to sway your opinions of Dubstep.

What is Dubstep? I can feel you may be pondering this exact question at this current moment in time, so let me quickly enlighten you; Dubstep is a genre of electronic dance music that has its roots in London’s early 2000s UK garage scene. Dubstep tracks are generally produced at a tempo of around 140 beats per minute. So, for the people who don’t understand this, I would explain Dubstep as to being a music genre that is just different.

What does Dubstep sound like? A sensible question, you may want to hear different samples of types of Dubstep tracks, I have picked three tracks for you to sample but if you want to hear more Dubstep, feel free to comment right here or even check my YouTube channel here, I do Dubstep mixes (more about that later).

Plastician – Japan: First, I begin with a chilled out, oriental style Dubstep track, Japan by Plastician. This track uses the classic Dubstep beat style but Plastician cleverly uses an oriental theme. When the bass kicks in, you really need some good speakers and a 1000 WATT SUBWOOFER (personal joke, google “Stevenrock137″) to truly enjoy the track.

Second, my favourite Dubstep track of all time just had to be noted here, Jahova by Rusko. What can I say? The intro fooled me the first ever time I heard the tune, I thought that the song was going to be some lightweight tune, but no, I was wrong. Jahova is just perfection in my opinion. I feel that the song is emotional but heavy, well worth a listen.

Thirdly, I couldn’t leave out my favourite artist, who is Skream, from this list for you to view, Rutten by Skream. This song is rather simple, it is driven by the deep bassline with a few interesting bits to make the tune that bit more special. And just to think that this tune is almost 5 years old, wow. Skream still produces tracks, google his name and download his albums and mixes. Then you may see why he is my favourite Dubstep DJ.

Fourthly, FINISH THIS BIT.

Who are some Dubstep artists? I could go on for a long time making a huge list of Dubstep artists, but here are a few of my favourites (in no order at all). Skream, Benga, Caspa, Rusko, The Others, Coki, Crissy Criss, Datsik, Digital Mystikz, Distance, Doctor P, Emalkay, Ed Solo, Excision, Joker, Jakes, Ginz, Kromestar, N-Type, Plastician, Sukh Knight and Unitz.

How do I get Dubstep? Dubstep on CD is hard to come by. Decent quality MP3 Dubstep is also hard to come by. To be able to purchase and listen to Dubstep, you may have to resort to the wonderful (not so) old format of Vinyl Records. Some people say Vinyl is a step backwards but it’s honestly not. Vinyls are the best quality music you can buy and even now, all Dubstep tunes are released on Vinyl (and I truly mean all). I own a growing collection of Vinyl Records and if you enjoy Dubstep, you should consider starting a collection too! If you ever need help on knowing where to buy Dubstep Vinyls, just ask me in the comments.

By now, you may be getting sick of Dubstep or you may have a new love, I don’t know, your music taste is your choice. Back to the other music genre’s I enjoy. Well, I must be honest there are only a few which I truly enjoy. Drum and Bass (it’s like Dubstep but faster) is a genre that I am very fond of. Next, Old School Hip Hop is another brilliant genre that I enjoy. I’d say you are privelidged if you ever get to hear music from the likes of The Sugarhill Gang or Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five — Two brilliant groups with brilliant tracks. Finally, I’m a bit of a softie for one “newer” rapper in particular. Xzibit isn’t really that bad, especially his tune LAX from Need For Speed Underground, an epic game and likewise an epic song.
