Cashflow priorities

Just a note to myself really, don’t take notice..

  1. £200 – Incognito Records
  2. £270 – Pioneer DJM 600
  3. £350 – Technics SL1210
  4. £600+ – Pioneer CDJ400 (or higher)

Then I need stands and a new table.

Check out my track progress

I’ve been working on my first ever proper piece today (and yesterday) entitled “Tripod Attack”. So far everything is going well; I’ve completed a large part of the introduction which uses over 30 samples – it’s very complicated. I have uploaded two “work in progress” previews so you can see how I’m getting on all the time. Check it out on my SoundCloud; http://soundcloud.com/v2cardiff

Magnetic Man: The Bug

This is a very clever stomper that I’m lovin’ right now. I mean clever as in this track has been designed to appeal to the usual Dubsteppers as well as the mainstream audience. Very clever and a good track. Check it.

Music this year and stuff..

What up blog followers or random people directed here by Skream’s tweets, haha! Just wanted to say that there are a lot of great things (music wise) coming up and if you really support the genres then you should support the artists by buying the tracks (lol – how am I saying this?). Next monday, Skream’s album “Outside The Box” is out. Then we have the Magnetic Man album out in a few months, then the Joker album which promises to be pretty heavy. I’ve also heard that Benga’s second album may be dropping this year (although I doubt this).

London was great. Caspa (and Azlan, great MC by the way) smashed it and so did some guy called Jakwob (with his rubbish MC’s). Had a great day out in London although we did kind of space everything out a lot and could have done a lot more if we really wanted. Not really bothered, as I have said, really enjoyed our time and I hope more of us could go to London some time just to see the sights and maybe buy some records in Soho :D

On holiday in a week or so. Won’t see many blog posts from me this month, maybe my GCSE results when I get them but yeah, nothing much to report. My good mood is still rolling from the start of these holidays. Nothing has really gotten me down (or had any rational reason to get me down) which is good. Roll on the end of Summer, School and next year I’d say. I’m kind of wishing my life away right now but being 16 and into Dubstep really isn’t convenient but I’m sure when I’m back in school I’ll be getting more sets, etc.

Yeah, take it easy.

Blog updates & errors

My new blog layout is now live! I quite like this new layout and I’ve also been told it’s nicer and more stylish than the other one (even though I loved the simplicity of that one). New features include nothing (lol) except for a Dubstep quote rotator that randomly selects a Dubstep quote from a list I’ve made. If you want a quote from one of your favourite Dubstep or Drum and Bass tracks then please, leave a comment!

Thanks for reading my blog, this month has been the best so far with almost 2,000 unique page views. Not bad at all. (Thanks Skream)

Alright. My blog is currently undergoing a makeover and will look ugly for a few days (the layout your seeing at this moment isn’t final). Along with these updates will be errors and lots of them. Ignore them for now while I iron out everything (woman, lol). Have a nice day!

Quick-ass review of Skream – Outside The Box

Skream’s second album, Outside The Box was leaked yesterday and I decided to download it and listen to it (because I’m a huge Skream fan, plus, I have already promised that I am buying two copies of his album, one CD and one Vinyl). In summary, before I review each track (really quickly and highly biased because I love Skream), the Album is glorious. I was expecting a lot of pop influence, yes the album does have a mainstream influence but it is cleverly built to appeal to the normal Dubstep addict at the same time. In my opinion, the album is a must buy and one of the best of 2010.

  1. Perforated: A gorgeous track, emotional.
  2. 8 Bit Baby (ft Murs): Smartly constructed but I dislike the vocal (sorry Murs!).
  3. CPU: You can tell that Skream’s mind is crazy but never the less, decent track.
  4. Where You Should Be (ft Sam Frank): A good use of talk box, vocal fits in well with the track.
  5. How Real (ft Freckles): Lovely vocal, cleverly put together but where is “I Give You Everything (ft Yasmin)” – I loved that track too.
  6. Fields Of Emotion: Appeals to both the Dubsteppers and also to the pop people. Very good track, heavy but sweet.
  7. I Love The Way: Love the vocal sample. The deep basslines with the synths on top are pretty sweet.
  8. Listenin’ To The Records On My Wall: A real banger, emotional and brings back memories of Jungle days.
  9. Wibbler: Heavy, mental wobbling Dubstep, appeals to real filth heads, brilliant – huge track for Dubstep sets.
  10. Metamorphosis: Don’t know what’s going on with the thumping kick, a very atmospheric track with the echoes and sharp synths. Quite nice.
  11. Finally (ft La Roux): Introduction is very good, low bassline is pretty nice. The vocal is surprisingly good and makes the track better (my opinion). Skream was getting a lot of stick for this track but I really do like it.
  12. Reflections (ft dbridge & Instra:Mental): Wasn’t sure about this track when I first heard the sample but it’s a very strong track for the album. Chilled out, I like.
  13. A Song For Lenny: Don’t know the reason for the title but a very emotional track with the synths and low bassline. Chilled out, makes you want to fly!
  14. The Epic Last Song: It’s exactly what the track is entitled, an epic last song. Skream wanted to finish on an upbeat banger and this is it. Brilliant.

Well, that’s my quick-ass review of Skream’s new album, Outside The Box. It’s due to hit your shelves on the 9th of August. Make sure you pre-order it now or get down to your local record shops. Support your locals! Peace out.

I would do a full in depth review, but I’m a lazy 16 year old teenager. What more do you expect? Haha!

Are you paranoid about your self image?

^Enjoy some music, while you read.

An interesting topic that I’ve thought about recently is “self image“. What I mean by this is the way you act and (try) to appear to other people. Examples of this could be changing your appearance to fit in with others around you or even (in some circumstances) changing your whole attitude, likes / dislikes, music taste, etc (some do this just to fit in). I’ve seen many people do it, in fact, I would even go as far as saying we all do it at some point in our lives. It may even be for a really important reason like getting that job, but we still all do it.

The sad thing is, this (sort 0f) indicates that none of us are really happy for who we really are. Let’s get into the discussion. I’m going to say that I’m one that isn’t that bothered about their self image. I’ll explain. I have a terrible wardrobe of clothes, I know this (and all my friends tell me so). I wear clothes that are comfy, and also (it’s sad, but) give me good memories. Take my t-shirt collection (yes, I always wear t-shirts all the time), each t-shirt (not all, some) gives me a different memory. I’m not really bothered about how much my clothes cost, where they’re from and which designer made them, I buy clothes because I like wearing them.

In what way does this relate to self image? Well, some are really bothered about what they wear and get worked up over small decisions such as what top to wear or what accessory, etc. It’s stupid, it’s causing un-needed stress, why do it? We do it to appeal, impress and meet the standards of peers around us, we want to be accepted and respected – it seems you can’t gain much for just being a nice guy any more.

I’ll stay on the topic of me, but let’s switch to the way we act. I myself act like a complete and utter fool around most (yes, I’ve picked up on it!). Some hate it, meanwhile some people are friends with me for this very reason, they like me for it. At the same time, other people are so self-concious about the way they act, they constantly worry in their head “what’s she thinking about me, is that guy whispering and laughing at me or what?”. You know what, this actually makes me laugh in a way. I say it to many people who come to me for advice (yes, I do get people coming to me and I’m happy to help), especially about their friends and stuff then I usually end up saying the same thing (or along the lines); “be yourself and watch, you’ll then learn who your real friends are”.

I was going to discuss the general way we look but then again, it’s sort of repeating what I’ve already said. Sure, making yourself look good is fine, we all want to look good (don’t we?) but I could bring up the way people change their whole appearance to fit in with others. I’ve said it – I won’t go any further.

This blog post (or little article) could be expanded further but I’ve decided to leave it here. I hope you all enjoy summer.
